Top Skylines of the world

1. Hong Kong, China
Hong Kong is number one on my list for many reasons: Hong Kong has whopping 39 buildings over 200 meters tall. It also boasts four of the 15 tallest buildings in the world... that's all in one city! Hong Kong's skyline shows a large selection of distinct sky-reaching towers, with beautiful night lighting and reflection. This city exemplifies the post-modern skyscraper and skyline. Finally, the mountain backdrop makes this skyline (as you can clearly see) the greatest on the planet!
Metro/Urban Population: 6.8 million

2. Chicago, USA
Chicago is the birthplace of the modern skyscraper. When Chicago built its first steel high-rise in 1885, it was not the tallest structure in the world but the first example of a new form of engineering that would change nearly every city on earth. Chicago has 17 buildings over 200 meters tall (three of which are among the top 20 tallest buildings in the world, including the tallest in North America). Chicago has some of the finest mid-century architecture and examples of modern skyscrapers.
Metro/Urban Population: 8.5 million

3. Shanghai, China
Not to be mistaken for a space station, Shanghai is a real city! China's biggest and most advanced city, Shanghai was said to be the most cosmopolitan city in the beginning of the 20th century, but lost its glory during the "Mao era". It is now quickly regaining its position as one of the biggest economic powerhouses in the world as well as a showcase of modern architecture. In Shanghai you'll find 18 structures that are over 200 meters tall, one of which is the insanely tall, the 468m downtown Oriental Pearl TV Tower.
Metro/Urban Population: 13.1 million

4. New York City, USA
New York City has one of the densest and most diverse skylines, with a huge collection of buildings and building styles. Thanks to Hollywood's obsession with the city, it is also the most easily recognizable skyline in the world. New York City has an amazing 44 buildings over 200 meters - the most in the world! Home of the famous, now destroyed World Trade Center Towers, the Empire State building, the Statue of Liberty and the United Nations, New York City is the financial capital of the western world. Upon the completion of the new "Freedom Tower" (built on the old site of the World Trade Centers), it may rank higher in this list (depending on how good it looks of course).
Metro/Urban Population: 21.0 million

How to avoid tele-marketing calls

If they say they're John Doe from XYZ Company, ask them to spell their name. Then ask them to spell the company name. Then ask them where it is located, how long it has been in business, how many people work there, how they got into this line of work, if they are married, how many kids they have, etc. Continue asking them personal questions or questions about their company for as long as necessary.

Say "no" over and over. Be sure to vary the sound of each one, and keep a rhythmic tempo, even as they are trying to speak. This is most fun if you can do it until they hang up.

If MCI calls trying to get you to sign up for the Family and Friends Plan, reply, in as sinister a voice as you can, "I don't have any friends, would you be my friend?"

If they start out with, "How are you today?" say, "I'm so glad you asked, because no one these days seems to care, and I have all these problems. My arthritis is acting up, my eyelashes are sore, my dog has the gout..."

If the company cleans rugs, respond: "Can you get out blood? Can you get out goat blood? How about human blood?"

Ask them to repeat everything they say several times.

Insist that the caller is really your buddy Leon, playing a joke. "Come on, Leon, cut it out! Seriously, Leon, how's your momma?"

Tell them you are hard of hearing and that they need to speak up . . . louder . . . louder . . .

When the salesperson asks, "Is this the homeowner?" say, "Is this the salesperson?" And when they say, "Yes," hang up.

Tell the telemarketer you are busy at the moment and ask them if they will give you their home phone number so you can call them back. When the telemarketer explains that telemarketers cannot give out their home numbers say, "I guess you don't want anyone bothering you at home, right?" The telemarketer will agree and you say, "Me either!" Hang up.

Incredible Language Power

This is a nice one, go through this! - The person who formulated this
sentence must be a vocabulary wizard....

"I do not know where family doctors acquired illegibly perplexing
handwriting nevertheless, extraordinary pharmaceutical intellectuality
counterbalancing indecipherability, transcendentalizes
intercommunications incomprehensibleness. "

In this sentence the Nth word is N letters long. e. g. 3rd word is 3
letters long, 8th word is 8 letters long and so on.

The Worst Pick-Up Lines ... That Ever Worked!

The Worst Pick-Up Lines ... That Ever Worked!

Happen magazine chooses the worst pick-up lines...that
ever worked! These seemingly lame come-ons actually
charmed women. Just goes to show you, romance is
always full of surprises. Read on and pick up an idea
or two.

The Corniest Line Ever Award
"This guy who was so not my style came over to me and
my friends and asked: 'Do you happen to know how much
a polar bear weighs?' We said no and kept walking, and
then he said, 'Well, it's enough to break the ice. Hi,
I'm Brian.' We all cracked up and kept talking to
him." —Charity, 29, Cincinnati, OH

The Artistic License Award
"I was shooting pool with friends, and some guys
offered us a friendly challenge. Midway through the
game, one of them looked at me and said, 'Do you
remember Crayola crayons? Well, they used to have this
color called Blizzard Blue. It was my favorite color,
and your eyes are actually Blizzard Blue.' I thought
it was so cute-he had me right there." —Erica, 21,
Brunswick, OH

The Balls of Steel Award
"I was at an office party when a guest of a coworker
introduced himself and said, 'Blueberries or
strawberries?' Confused, I asked what he meant, and he
replied, 'I just want to know what kind of pancakes to
make you in the morning.' He said it with such a
straight face that it was like a scene in a funny
movie. I didn't eat breakfast with him, but I did give
him my number." —Jan, 33, Cleveland, OH

The Dumb and Dumber Award
"This random guy came up to me at a party, looked me
straight in the eyes and said, 'Baby, you're sexier
than socks on a rooster.' I had absolutely no idea
what he meant, but I thought it was funny and I liked
how unusual it was. It got us talking, trying to
figure out what that line meant!" —Holly, 19, Milford,
OH

The Mama's Boy Award
"I was at a local bar one night, and this guy sat next
to me and said, 'Would it freak you out if I said that
I've already told my mother about you?' I said, 'No,
why?' Then he told me that he'd actually stepped
outside, called his mother and asked her how to
approach me. I thought it was adorable that he was a
mama's boy." —Michelle, 25, Erie, PA

The Oddest Use of a Parking Space Award
"I fought tooth and nail with a guy over a parking
space and won. When I came back out to my car, there
was a note on it that said, 'I like your style. Call
me.' It was very unexpected, and I loved the approach.
See, it pays to be a lover and a fighter." —Lynn, 36,
Boston, MA

The Best Brown-Nosing Award
"This poker party I was at started to get very
crowded. As a group of girls walked in, this guy came
up behind me and said, 'I think you're going to be
asked to leave soon. You're so pretty, you're putting
all the other women to shame.' I tend to be very shy,
so his compliment really helped crack my shell."
—Katie, 31, Chicago, IL

The Let-Me-Count-The-Ways Award
"I first met my current boyfriend at a bar, and after
we introduced ourselves, he said, 'I adore you.' He
then drunkenly went on to catalog why he adored
me—from the way I ordered drinks to the way I brushed
hair out of my eyes. It was sort of scary that he'd
been watching me, but what took it out of stalker mode
and made it flattering was his sweetness and
sincerity." —Melissa, 27, Brooklyn, NY

Role Reversal

A heartwarming story of the advances of women in achieving equality
throughout the world. Barbara Walters did a story on gender roles in Kabul
several years before the Afghan conflict. She noted that women customarily
walked about 10 paces behind their husbands. She returned to Kabul recently
and observed that the men now walk several paces behind their wives.
Ms. Walters approached one of the Afghani women and said, "This is
marvelous. Can you tell the free world just what enabled women to achieve
this reversal of roles?"

"Land mines," said the woman.

The Boss

Scientists at the Rocket launching station in Thumba, were in the habit of
working for nearly 12 to 18 hours a day. There were about Seventy such
scientists working on a project. All the scientists were really frustrated due to
the pressure of work and the demands of their boss but everyone was loyal to
him and did not think of quitting the job.

One day, one scientist came to his boss and told him - Sir, I have promised
to my children that I will take them to the exhibition going on in our
township. So I want to leave the office at 5 30 pm.

His boss replied - O K, , You are permitted to leave the office early today.

The Scientist started working. He continued his work after lunch. As usual
he got involved to such an extent that he looked at his watch when he felt he
was close to completion. The time was 8.30 p.m

Suddenly he remembered of the promise he had given to his children. He
looked for his boss,,He was not there. Having told him in the morning itself, he
closed everything and left for home.

Deep within himself, he was feeling guilty for having disappointed his
children.

He reached home. Children were not there. His wife alone was sitting in the
hall and reading magazines. The situation was explosive, any talk would
boomerang on him.

His wife asked him - Would you like to have coffee or shall I straight away
serve dinner if you are hungry.

The man replied - If you would like to have coffee, i too will have but what
about Children???

Wife replied- You don't know - Your manager came at 5 15 p.m and has taken
the children to the exhibition.

What had really happened was

The boss who granted him permission was observing him working seriously at
5.00 p.m. He thought to himself, this person will not leave the work, but if
he has promised his children they should enjoy the visit to exhibition. So he
took the lead in taking them to exhibition

The boss does not have to do it everytime. But once it is done, loyalty is
established.

That is why all the scientists at Thumba continued to work under their boss
eventhough the stress was tremendous.

By the way , can you hazard a guess as to who the boss was????????

HE WAS A.P.J. ABDUL KARIM

Cigars and Insurance

A Charlotte, NC. man having purchased a case of very rare, very
expensive cigars, insured them against fire, among other things.

Within a month, having smoked his entire stockpile of cigars and without
having made even his first premium payment on the policy, the man filed
a claim against the insurance company. In his claim, the man stated the
cigars were lost "in a series of small fires." The insurance company
refused to pay, citing the obvious reason that the man had consumed the
cigars in the normal fashion. The man sued and won.

In delivering the ruling the judge, agreeing that the claim was
frivolous, stated nevertheless that the man held a policy from the
company in which it had warranted that the cigars were insurable and
also guaranteed that it would insure against fire, without defining what
it considered to be "unacceptable fire," and was obligated to pay the
claim.

Rather than endure a lengthy and costly appeal process, the insurance
company accepted the ruling and paid the man $15,000 for the rare cigars
he lost in "the fires." After the man cashed the check, however the
company had him arrested on 24 counts of arson.

With his own insurance claim and testimony from the previous case being
used against him, the man was convicted of intentionally burning his
insured property and sentenced to 24 months in jail and a $24,000 fine.

The Parsi syndrome

About Paris.. by a Parsi..

The Unbearable Madness of being a BAWA

I have often wondered: Are Bawas really mad? Of course this question
only lasts for about a fraction of a microsecond. Because even a
cursory glance at some of my brethren is enough to convince me of the
answer. I mean, what else would you call someone who parks his
beloved motorcycle in his third floor living room?
Or someone who has three-tier armrests on his commode so that he can
read his morning newspaper more comfortably? Or someone who makes a
large loop of his pyjama string and slips it over his head every time
he has a bout of diarrhoea,
for quick release, in emergencies?

Of course we're mad! In fact we inspired the famous Jack Nicholson
movie. It was originally going to be titled: One Flew over Cusrow
Baug. What remains
to be understood is why exactly are we like this?

This is a question that has bothered me on many hot summer afternoons
when I feel the insanity bubbling up inside me like some slowly
fermenting Dhanshak.
After all, I too have felt the urge on occasion:
To donate umbrellas to all the Parsi statues in Bombay so that their
dignified phetas (traditional Parsi head-gear) are not exposed to the
callousness of pigeon shit.
To run around Dhobi Talao trying to change as many
double-decker bus numbers to 66 (or whatever your most used bus
number) as is humanly possible in one entertaining hour.
To convince my poor friend Rustom (name changed to protect his
insanity) that they were going to ask him to recite the entire Bombay
Telephone Directory in his English Poetry Oral Exam.

Most of the time I can put this predisposition towards madness down
to"having a slightly different sense of humour. But when I delve
deeper, I find that there are other dimensions to our madness as well.
Like my grand-uncle who would only wear a shirt once and then give it
away to the poor (The Madness of Charity).
Or the man who returned a gold brick during the harbour explosion at
Bombay Docks (The Madness of Honesty).
Or the aunty who thought the TV repair man was trying to throw rays at
her (The Madness of Paranoia).
I also wonder about other dimensions to our oddness. Like why are
there so many grown Parsi men who live with their mothers? And why are
there so many grown Parsi women who prefer not to
live with grown Parsi men who live with their mothers?
Like why are we so obsessive about cleaning our cars and motorcycles?
And where on earth did we find our accent from?
And why do we cover our fish in banana leaves? Is it to protect their
modesty? Or is it to prevent them from hearing the scandalous gossip
at our traditional Parsi lagans (weddings)?

Whatever the dimension, there is no doubting one thing. Our madness
is a gentle, harmless, twittering kind of madness. The kind that
makes other people
smile and twirl their index finger at forehead level indulgently.

But after years of introspection and self analysis I find I am still
unable to answer that essential question. Why are Bawas mad.Perhaps it
is simply
to entertain ourselves? After all, we haven't got Parsi TV yet.

A scientific friend of mine thinks we are mad because of
inter-breeding. He could be right. But sometimes, I think that this
answer is almost too boring for the Parsis. I prefer my more romantic
friend who claims: "We are mad because if we were not, we would truly
be mad. I think we are mad, to protect us from the sane."

So the next time you feel like throwing a brick at your boss or a show
window, don't. Try the ˜Bawaâ(tm) method. Try a little productive
madness and insanity.
